Yin and Yang and the Nature of the Universe

posted Sep 30, 2011 07:48:08 by LeeHaslamVT
Yin is the black side with the white dot on it and yang is the white side with the black dot on it. The relationship between yin and yang is often described in terms of sunlight playing over a mountain and in the valley. Yin (literally the 'shady place' or 'north slope') is the dark area occluded by the mountain's bulk, while yang (literally the 'sunny place' or 'south slope') is the brightly lit portion. As the sun moves across the sky, yin and yang gradually trade places with each other, revealing what was obscured and obscuring what was revealed.

Yin is characterized as slow, soft, yielding, diffuse, cold, wet, and passive; and is associated with water, earth, the moon, femininity and nighttime.

Yang, by contrast, is fast, hard, solid, focused, hot, dry, and aggressive; and is associated with fire, sky, the sun, masculinity and daytime

So what's your take on it my friends?

Cool, I always thought that Yin was the white and that yang was the blk...Shows how much I know then..Although i dont suppose it matters to much..

Night and day, This is how ive always percieved it.."NOT" good and bad..or if you like, Good and evil..There is no evil in nature..only man.

Yeah I like to think that, the good and evil part. A balance in nature, universe, light comes back to batttle with the dark.

The concepts of Yin and Yang and the Five Agents provided the intellectual framework of much of Chinese scientific thinking especially in fields like biology and medicine. The organs of the body were seen to be interrelated in the same sorts of ways as other natural phenomena, and best understood by looking for correlations and correspondences. Illness was seen as a disturbance in the balance of Yin and Yang or the Five Agents caused by emotions, heat or cold, or other influences. Therapy thus depended on accurate diagnosis of the source of the imbalance.

Western medicine could learn so much from this..

How the symbol was born!

When observing the cycle of the Sun, ancient Chinese simply used a pole about 8 feet long, posted at right angles to the ground and recorded positions of the shadow. Then they found the length of a year is around 365.25 days. They even divided the year's cycle into 24 Segments, including the Vernal Equinox, Autumnal Equinox, Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice, using the sunrise and Dipper positions.

You can see the graph of this at below link

Wow !! that is just so cool !!....This I like a lot..Information such as this,is the stuff that holds our hearts together..

Depth of knowledge is just so important..Wing Chun is Logical and scientific, in order to get the best from the system it pays to exercise the mind too..

What I love about Taoist Cosmology is that to start with was just one thing Wu Chi from which Tai Chi formed and from this came fire, water, earth, wood, metal and from this came the 10,000 things. Modern quantum physics postulates that there was one original element, which broke into two and from this arrived all the different elements that now make up the known universe. Pretty amazing that the Chinese worked it out 3,000 BCE with out the aid of particle physics!

Its interesting to note that a people dont have to be technologicaly advanced in order to formulate an impression of the of the universe as if the universe is as simple or as complex as we wish to make it, In fact it wouldnt suprise me if science were to one day onclude that thaught matter and energy were the same things viewed from different perspectives- the principle that thaught creates is not a new one... but could explain a great many things including why particle physicists keep on finding new particles whenever they look for them- could their focused intent and belief be creating the very particle they intend to prove exists? after all a single particle is a very small thing to request of the universe.

Cool Chris...This is a real humdinger of a topic..brain ache for the uninitiated..

I've no doubt that is right Chris for ages Particle Physicists have been looking for a particle that can travel faster than the speed of light an impossibility according to the theories espoused by Einstein. However they have recently discovered a Neutrino that does seem to be travelling faster than the speed of light!
Thought is incredibly powerful if you measure a particle in one area say speed then you can't measure it in any other, if you want to locate it then you can't measure it. The observers intent seems to be everything!
Einstein showed us that matter and energy are the same thing E = MC 2(squared no superscript!)If you compare a description of energy and spirit they are the same, can never be destroyed only changed etc. If you think of spirit as intelligent energy I think you would not be far off the mark. When energy manifests its most usual incarnation is a bright light when spirit manifests it to is usually bright light. I think you can see where I'm going with this, thought is a manifestation of intelligent energy or spirit. Belief can move mountains they say well belief is just absolute thought. Once upon a time I used to be what they call a born again Christian! I could speak in tongues (still can in fact) and had a complete belief in what ever I asked for if I had need of it, it would manifest. I was riding a motorbike at the time and I never, not once had to stop for a red traffic light they were always green. I used to travel between Bristol and Swindon where I lived and you get quite a bit of fog along that stretch of the motorway. One night riding back from a Christian meeting it was extremely foggy and I asked for a clear passage it was light a bubble opened up around me so I could see as far forward as I needed. When I got to the turn off at the Swindon end one side of the Junction was clear of fog and the other side was like a wall of fog. There were other things to many to recall here, my point is that when we truly believe something will be, the universe obliges by making it happen. Because I had complete faith that I would receive it happened, later as I discovered Christianity was not the answer I was looking for, then my faith failed and I stopped being able to manifest these things.
I don't think it was because I was a Christian that I was able to do this, I think anyone can do this absolute belief in your thought will make it happen. As spirits thought is how things happen it is the only way to make things happen but an incarnated spirit forgets how to do this, except in extraordinary circumstances, like faith then we remember.
Sorry I seem to have written a samll eassy here got a bit carried away still metaphysics is a passion of mine!

Dont worry Scott i imagine that everyone has a passion for metaphysics in a sense just being here is proof of that, I too have seen many instances of providence that cannot easily be attributed to random chance or luck both in observing others and in my own life- i have noticed that even when one looses the concious will to manifest in the way you eloquently described the phenomena carries on at a subconcious level affecting life in small ways that continue to support the agenda of the spirit and will of the mind, often the effects of which are so subtle as to be passed off (when noticed) as blind luck or random convergence of life factors often it will be years down the road when the person sees the correlation between unconcious will and manifestation, noticing also seems to be down to perspective as seeing the traces of this requires a heightened awareness that is not easy to cultivate or keep under stress that may shut down the concious ability to manifest. The greatest debilitator is fear- it makes us take the primal path to fight or flight shutting down our higher reasoning indeed on a martial note those warriors throughout history that were able to mitigate or control their fear response were often credited with feats of almost supernatural proportions the Spartans being the epitomy of this.
