2012 Year of the Dragon

posted Jan 25, 2012 11:00:14 by LeeHaslamVT
Gong Hei Fard Choy or Xin Nian Kuai Le!!!

The Chinese zodiac year of 2012 is upon us!

Astrology is part of Chinese life. In Chinese astrology dragon people excel. The dragon Chinese zodiac year is special.

Many people are looking forward to the Chinese zodiac year of 2012. Astrology is so important to the Chinese and the Chinese year of the dragon is so special.

Think about the dragon!

In Chinese astrology the dragon is the only animal of the Chinese zodiac year that is not real. In Chinese astrology the dragon is quite special and very much revered.

The dragon holds special significance for the Chinese people.

More than 4,000 years ago, there were two large tribes and many smaller tribes in China. The tribes had animals as emblems. The two large tribes unified and chose the dragon as their symbol. In fact, the Han Chinese still call themselves the descendants of the Dragon.

In Chinese astrology the dragon was seen as a powerful almighty king because it was made up of different parts of animals such as a tiger, fish, snake and an eagle.

The Chinese dragon was not seen as a threatening evil being as we do in the west - rather a symbol of power, superiority and rule.

Still today, the Dragon is a revered symbol. You can see many sculptures and carvings of the dragon. Even today, the Chinese associate the dragon with power and wisdom.

In Chinese astrology a dragon person is special. Born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon they usually stand out as befits a dragon. They are powerful and wise.

In a group of people, "the Chinese Year of the Dragon person" stands out. There is a certain aura about them. They certainly are not shy – they demand attention and respect. The dragon is a symbol of power.

Therefore in Chinese astrology the dragon person born under this Chinese Zodiac sign tends to be a "doer" – they do things and achieve power by getting things done. A dragon can breathe out fire so the person born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon can be a hothead. Watch out if you make them angry!

However, the dragon has a soft underbelly and so in Chinese astrology the dragon person born in this Chinese Zodiac year has a "soft spot" to them. They may get angry at someone who annoys them but they also show great compassion to people in need.
A dragon has a long tongue which is often seen. So in Chinese astrology the dragon person born in this Chinese Zodiac year has a sharp tongue – they will say things that can be quite sarcastic and biting.

The person born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon can be quite a confronting person but if you can reach their "soft heart" they are worthwhile allies.

2012 is the Chinese year of the dragon. So what does 2012 hold for a person born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon?

Such people such double their efforts in whatever they do - work, education and other projects. Their natural talent and abilities should stand out with great results.
However, watch out for that temper! Keep it in check and do not spoil your good work.

But I wonder what the Year of the Dragon holds for the world. There is certainly a change in the air, in Politics - Amercian Presidental race for the Whitehouse, will a whiteman be in it? The Euro's downward spiral, Japan is in financial trouble, Russia - Putin will rise again causing many worries for the West, China moving in on Europe buying up companies and perhaps countries - interesting times!

Great post brother Lee, truly inspirational. Im not a dragon in a Chinese zodiac sense, shame....

No not really, im a, the one that wakes everyone else up and sets the example to all. Sounds about right I guess....interestingly though, in the Mayan calendar im a Cosmic Dragon, my most prominent sign in my birthchart is the moon. So you could say im a cosmic moon dragon. My domain is the astral, the domain of the emotions.

Its definately going to be a great year for Mendip Wing Chun Kuen, that I can just feel...Our knowledge is acurate and true, so it stands to reason that our clan will just get stronger and stronger.

By the end of 2012 we will be untouchable in this part of the SW.....funny that for a small, out of the way class in the middle of nowhere....!!!:)

Why dont we join the rest of the WC guys and rush off to become part of their big marketing plan !!..because we know better...its happened before and it will happen again..commercial WC, no thanks !!!

WSL VT all the way.......feel the difference !!

Nice article Lee, I am a Dog/Water traditionaly that means i walk between worlds protect and look after others before myself i fortify my life more heavily than most and have a strong sense of honor with a strong work ethic, dogs are often fatalistic reveling in a cultivated dark sense of humor as they walk between worlds they are more aware of the life and death cycle well aware that we are all dust- that can make them cynical of those hungry for power are superficial or inconsistant though they are loyal they often feel out of place in a world that values competition and where disloyalty often reigns, stuborn and strict with themselves by nature and often pessimistic anything new or unexpected is treated as a threat until proven otherwise (the dog is a territorial creature and clearly marks boundaries as much for their own benifit as to ward others). dog is a sensitive soul so this alertness to threats seems waranted to them. in many traditions the dog is a guide and guardian in the beyond or in the disquieting greyness of intermediary worlds guarding the thresholds of twilit wastelands marking the portals to obscure regions of the soul one such dog is Cerberus who guards the gates of Hades and of Plutos palace ushering in the shades of the dead but rearing three menacing heads at intruders and escapees.

Thanks Chris. I think the Chinese way of this is quite accurate in some ways, mixed with the astrological chart of the tweleve signss - can be a good way of defining your character, but the influence of others around such as your parents signs should also be taken into account.

I find it interesting that we all seem to know our Chinese Astrology signs and I am no exception. I am a Fire Rooster "Roosters are very loyal individuals. They do not like dishonesty or mockery of any sort. They are blunt, up front and honest people and expect those around them to be the same. Roosters are happiest when they are surrounded by others, at a party or just a social gathering. They even enjoy the spotlight and will exhibit their charisma and wit in a minute. This star quality can be overbearing, for a Rooster expects you to listen to him while he speaks and can become agitated if you don’t. Roosters do have a tendency to brag about themselves and their achievements and demand an attentive audience when doing so." Fortunately age mellows them but I've no doubt I was an unbearable arse when I was younger though very very attractive especially to the opposite sex! Xin Nian Kuai Le, Happy Chinese New Year everybody.

and the chasm grows ever wider !!
stevenmaidens said Feb 26, 2012 18:01:10
Which side are you on...this side, with all those that wish to, have changed and have accepted a more positive outlook on life.

or are you still doing what you have always done?

Think about it, excuses are just that! excuses

Inability is just that! inability...

We are all on this path of self discovery, together or alone...fear or trust?

Its time to step up, for we are one voice, one heart, one family

Enough of the wishy washy....Lets move on...

who's for tennis?
ScottHutchinson said Mar 01, 2012 13:25:40
You know sometimes you seem to go off in a direction and I'm not sure why because all we see here is the reaction and not the cause! So I don't say anything because ? well because I haven't got a clue what you're on about or who it's aimed at if anyone? You're obviously reacting to something that has happened or been said and most of the time I'm perplexed to say the least!
However it doesn't matter what has caused it, I hear you, I may not answer for the reasons I've just given but I am listening and it's OK if you want to get things of your chest go for it. It is never 'wishy washy' who I'm pretty sure is a character from a pantomime!
Never mind Tennis but I'll thrash you at Badminton any time you like!!! ;^)
stevenmaidens said Mar 02, 2012 14:02:02
Scott, you must stop trying to second guess me all the time, somtimes im just prattling on about nothing in particular, you know just throwing stuff out there to see if anyones listening.

It wasnt aimed at anyone..Its just unfortunate that my post came after yours..nine times out of ten im on here talking to myself !!!:-)

In reference to my post "the chasm" thats the dividing of men 2012 just entered my head so i wrote about next post was just expanding on that idea..

If anything it was for Lee Haslam as we had been talking about it during his private lesson roughly when I wrote that piece, plus this is his topic(he started it).

So no it wasnt aimed at you or anyone else as far as a reaction is concerned, but it was kinda an open ended observation of the times we are living in.

We either change and move in unison or we get deleted..The goings on within my class (and this you can read between the lines of) is to me the microcosm of the much larger picture...People dont leave my life, they get removed...I know you get what im saying as I know you because I know me...:-)

So yes, I guess im pretty happy with the guys that decided to stand up for what is right and just in the universe, you included brother.

and my enough of the wishy washy was for Lee, as I know he likes to keep it grounded, and dosnt normally chime in if it gets too yes I was trying to make him more likely to carry on with his forum post..

All cool

Ah bless you I wasn't really expecting a reply I was just rambling! Of course talking to yourself is possibly the only way you can guarantee a decent conversation!! Though I noticed you said nothing about the Badminton challenge!!! I promise not to poke you for a while give you a bit of a rest. ;^)
Apart from anything I'm going to be so busy moving I shan't have the time.
